Steve did a great job of telling the story of the Tonopah Test Range aggressor activities that was finally declassified. I had the pleasure of being part of the special projects team at Groom Lake for the exploitation of the MiG-21 Fishbed and the two MiG-17 Frescos during HAVE DOUGHNUT, HAVE DRILL and HAVE FERRY. You might be interested in reading more about the projects and seeing some of the photos now declassified. http://area51specialprojects.com/migs.html
We have the satisfaction of knowing what we learned during the exploitation technical and tactical phases saved a lot of our pilots' lives during that war and those that followed. We learned that our modern pilots simply didn't know how to fight and that if they could survive ten sorties, they would learn enough to survive the war. With the Navy Top Gun and Air Force Red Flag (and all the other flag exercises), our pilots now get their ten combat missions here in Nevada rather than the war zone. The legacy of these Cold War stories need to be told. I'm identifying our websites below and you are welcome to harvest similar stores from them.
T.D.
